Bison by Lachlan Philpott
Examining aspects of contemporary queer relationships such as virtual identity, monogamy, bareback sex, and ageism, Philpott’s play strips back, sucks out and spits at the herd-like behaviour of the gay male habitat and the rules that govern the ‘scene’.
Alyson Campbell’s production crushed the rose-tinted television representations of gay life, delving beneath the sparkly surface to confront a more varied and complex range of gay masculinities. Sex, love, commitment, freedom, and the desire for pleasure are all interrogated in Philpott’s fast, funny and moving play.
With Matthew Cavan, Miche Doherty, Jonny Mc Millen-Patterson and Chris Sutton.
Bison was first performed as part of OUTBURST Queer Arts Festival in 2009, before transferring to London’s Ovalhouse Theatre in association with wreckedAllprods in 2010.
